Human trafficking and modern slavery represent some of the most harrowing human rights abuses of our time. The grim reality is that over 50 million people are currently trapped in exploitation, a number that continues to rise. Those being trafficked endure forced labour, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, and other forms of coercion, often moved from one location to another under threats, violence, or false promises. Unlike many other human rights violations, human trafficking is driven by economic incentives, generating an estimated $500 billion in annual revenues, making it one of the most profitable crimes globally.
At STOP THE TRAFFIK, we seek to disrupt this insidious industry. Our mission is to disrupt the business of human trafficking by focusing on the fundamental pillars that traffickers rely on:
- The recruitment of trafficked people
- The demand for trafficked people and how this exploitation intersects with global business
- The movement of money through legitimate platforms
The power of data in the fight against trafficking
Our data-driven approach recognises the need to harness technology to gather and analyse data on exploitation from thousands of sources. We integrate this with insights from those with lived experiences of trafficking and collaborations with hundreds of charities to create a comprehensive, trusted, and actionable data set within the Traffik Analysis Hub.
Developed in partnership with IBM, this innovative hub collates data from various sources, including not-for-profits, law enforcement, and open-source information. By analysing this data, we generate Exploitation Analytics Reports, which businesses like banks use to track human traffickers’ profits. The US State Department has recognised the TA Hub as a global solution in the fight against human trafficking, highlighting its crucial role in identifying patterns and hotspots of trafficking incidents.
Our work is grounded in the belief that collaboration, trust, drive and imagination are essential to our success. These core values guide our efforts to disrupt the business of human trafficking.
We understand that having vast amounts of raw data isn’t enough. It’s the insights and intelligence derived from this data that make the difference. Sharing this knowledge is critical—we provide information to banks, businesses, and individuals worldwide, empowering them to make informed decisions that can disrupt trafficking operations.
By utilising the Traffik Analysis Hub, we are beginning to the rich, interconnected web of information necessary to combat trafficking effectively.
Our vision is clear and unwavering: to create a world where people are not bought or sold. With the collective effort of our global community and the relentless drive to innovate and disrupt, we are making significant strides toward this goal.
Together, we can create a future where freedom is a reality for everyone.
